Boys Boys Boys

Creepy alien view of his face

His unmentionables (proof for the disbelievers, Mom!)

His Cute profile

The tides are changing. The next generation of Cain posterity will now be dominated by men. Grace, you are still our only connection to Cain female prominence. Enjoy your throne for a while longer. Yes, Sean and I are expecting another boy! We are happy and excited for Adam to have a little brother. We are even more excited that this next kid will be set for all clothing and toys. Since he is due to arrive in early December, his birthday will be very close to Adam's, which means same season. Wahoo!

Little Man #2 looked very healthy on his ultrasound and was VERY wiggly during the whole thing. I actually am going to have a second ultrasound in a month because the ultrasound tech was unable to get a good image of his spine and Kidneys. So we'll get to see him again in a few weeks. Heaven help us if this child is more active than Adam.

Sean is coming down to the wire in Bar studying. He takes his exam next week. I you all can remember, keep him in your prayers. We are both very anxious about it. We are excited to see everyone next week. Keep cool!

Love,
Lauren

Summer 2011 Update

Adam has a pretty impressive vocabulary now, especially with nouns and verbs - whenever we go anywhere he'll identify everything he sees: sun, grass & trees, wind & rain, bikes & runners, dogs & cats, buses & trucks, and lots of other stuff. We're working on adjectives. We can tell him pretty much any direct task, and he'll do it, like: "throw this in the garbage" or "that's hot, blow on it" or "go sit in your chair." He also smiles on command.

He knows some of the words to songs he hears, so he'll say some of the letters in ABC or some of the words in Mr. Rogers songs. He's starting to learn to string together words, when I'm carrying him he often tells me "go faster" or "hot sun." Actually, at stop lights he often says "go now" and point directly forward.

He's still very attached to his blanket and a few special stuff toys: a panda, a dog, and a bear. He's starting to show fear too, when he first gets in the pool, when I try to put him on top of tall things, or around certain items (like a woot monkey toy we have, and the rubber band part of a punching bag balloon). Other than the woot monkey, that screams, we can't figure out why he doesn't like certain items.

He can climb ladders at the park and hang stationary from monkey bars. He's learning to jump and can just barely get both feet off the ground at once. He loves slides and swings, though swings were out of favor for some time, but most of all he loves splashing in puddles. If we ask him to dance, he'll stomp his feet very quickly and smile. I don't know where he got that from, maybe watching us play DDR.

He lost his fingernail the other day. I guess he'd pinched it a few months ago, and the nail died, and a new one grew underneath. It didn't cause him any pain, and he lost it a few days from when we noticed a white bubble underneath. Actually, while it was falling off he burned his hand a little bit on our grittle, so his right hand was beat up for a while. But he's done teething (for now) and has 16 teeth: 8 in front, 4 canines, and 4 molars, so he eats anything we do.

His favorite books are Goodnight Moon and Brown Bear (he calls it "teacher"), and demands them before bed, as well as pretty much anything else he can get away with to delay bed time. He loves Mr. Rogers and asks for it several times a day. He is starting to like Sesame Street (calls it "feet"), and can identify all the major characters by name.

I'm still studying for the bar more than full time, which is the most unpleasant thing I've had to do in years (maybe ever) - far worse than law school. But just one more month. Lauren is starting into maternity clothes, since she's starting to show. She still feels fine, though I think she's as antsy as I am about knowing where the next stage of life will lead us.

Anyhow, thought you'd like to hear about him. Below are some pictures you might enjoy:

Our neighbors run a hose from their kitchen faucet outside, since we don't have spigots on our building

He and I go up to the park on my bike now, since we've got a seat for him

The tall slide!

Adam loves to walk to the tiny little tunnel and shout so it echoes

Adam loves the laptop

Packing peanuts!
Adam talks out of the side of his mouth for some reason, but I didn't have a picture of that so enjoy this one instead
