Adam in Summer

Adam army crawls now. Lower down on this page we put up a video of him doing it, but the video is already 2 weeks old, so he army crawls much faster now. He can get up on his hands an knees, but he isn't coordinated enough to do anything from there. His favorite things to chase are my glasses, cords on the ground, and our basket of remote controls. He's getting pretty good about moving quickly when he sees something he wants. He's all but outgrown his playmats and bouncy seat.

He eats stage 2 foods now. Some of his favorites are sweet potatoes & bananas, but he'll eat just about anything. Every day he eats one or two tubs/jars of food. We start with a vegetable, and when he's tired of that, we do a fruit. He's usually pretty good about eating it. The biggest problem is keeping his hands busy so he doesn't grab the spoon, or put his fingers in his mouth. Lauren likes normal bibs for him, I like these large cloth napkin thingies she brought home from work. You can see one of the cloth thingies in the picture of him eating, lower down.

We have a very nice community pool right nearby. It has some waterslides, a diving pool, a big lap pool, and a kiddie area - all for $2.50/adult. We tried a normal diaper in a special swimsuit; the swimsuit was supposed to keep the diaper dry. That was a failure, and Adam looked like he was wearing a balloon. So we got these "swimmies" diapers, and they work just fine. Adam likes the pool, he just doesn't like getting water in his eyes. Judging by a burp he had today, he swallows plenty of pool water, but still seems to enjoy it.

We've had some major thunderstorms run through here. Almost one every night. This week alone we had two tornado watches, and 4 or 5 severe thunderstorm warnings. Adam hasn't learned to be afraid of thunder yet. When he and I were outside during a storm, whenever he heard a loud thunderclap, he'd look at me for clues on how to react. When I smiled, he'd smile too. Plus he slept through the thunder we had last night, and it was loud enough to wake up Lauren and I.

Last week he went in for his 6 month checkup, and got more vaccinations. He did fine, and he's done with shots until 12 months. He weighs 19.5 pounds (50-75 percentile) and he was 27 inches long (25-50 percentile). The doctor said he's doing really well. On his developmental chart he was 9 months, and he's always been ahead. He has pretty good fine motor skills, he sits up by himself as long as he wants, and he's very alert. On a walk he and I took the other day, he spotted a big yellow butterfly before I did, and tracked it all the way across the creek.

Work at the bank has started for me, and I'm doing research for a professor off-and-on. The professor is nice, and she doubles the piddly $8/hour the University pays research assistants. The project at the bank seems worthwhile, I'm working on their fair lending standards. Lauren is thinking about preparing for a longer run, and work is still going well for her.

Enjoy the pictures!

Lauren is safer with him in the pool than I am

He floats pretty well, especially those fat thighs of his

This is the kiddie section of the pool

Prunes are not his favorite, nevermind this happy picture

He's actually being held horizontally by his thighs in this picture, he has a strong midsection

That's a burp cloth

He normally doesn't grumble when he crawls

Has it really been six months? I love that burp cloth picture. Can't wait to see you guys in just a few months (it seems so far away). By the way it sounds like you're conducting an experiment in the video haha
