Adam Speaks

Adam likes to speak gibberish, and he's been chatty for a while. Sometimes he says things that sound like words, but when we try to get him to use the words in context, he never does. Occasionally he'll imitate you, but it is pretty unusual. He will often say "hi" when you hold a phone to his ear, but mostly he speaks nonsense.

We've been trying to get him to understand words too. For a little while we thought he knew what yellow meant, because he'd bring a yellow toy, but we tested him and it turned out to be a fluke. Lauren has been teaching him words like nose, ears, hair, tongue, belly button, and toes. He's getting better, but still not all that reliable yet.

Anyhow, we got him to say "ball" fairly reliably. When we asked him to go get his ball, sometimes he'd get it, sometimes he wouldn't, and we weren't sure whether it was finger pointing, our tone, or the closeness of the ball that helped him identify his ball. On Wednesday Lauren was at the grocery store with Adam, and he saw a large metal basket of inflated plastic balls. His eyes lit up and he said "ball!" So we think that's officially his first real word.

He's doing well. He's decided swings aren't fun anymore, but slides are great - which is a switch from before. Here's a recent picture of him on a slide:

Hmmm, my bet is on Marshall!

It's cute when little tots imitate your tone even if they can't say the words. He's very brave to go down the slide. Grace took lots of coaxing to get down a slide. Marshall love the slide.

I still remember my heart skipping a beat or two when Grace started climbing the obstacles. I'm sure the boys will be more scary.

Adam quite handsome. Look at what great genes he has. Just remember as his vocabulary grows so will the number of questions he will be able to ask. Do we want to bet on how many he will be able to ask in a minute? He might have some Nana genes in this category. Ha!

One of Lauren's first words was "hamberburger".

LOL, Dad! I still use hamberburger with Grace and Marshall but had forgotten who said it.
